Scintillation Caustics in Planetary Occultation Light Curves
We revisit the GSC5249-01240 light curve obtained during its occultation by Saturn’s North polar region. In addition to refractive scintillations, the power spectrum of intensity fluctuations shows an enhancement of power between refractive and diffractive regimes. We identify this excess power as due to high amplitude spikes in the light curve and suggest that these spikes are due to caustics ...

15 صفحه اولSeeing Blobs as Faces or Letters: Modeling Effects on Discrimination
What is the difference between processing faces and other objects such as letters? What makes humans face experts, and what makes this expertise different from other identification skills? It is well known that people are very sensitive to the configural information in faces. How does the sensitivity to face configuration compare to sensitivity to configurations of other stimuli? To investigate...
متن کاملSeeing and Being Seen: The Effects on Gesture Production
Speakers are argued to adapt their language production to their addressee’s needs. For instance, speakers produce fewer and smaller hand gestures when interlocutors cannot see each other. Yet is this because speakers know their addressee cannot see them, or because they themselves do not see their addressee? By means of computer-mediated communication we manipulated these factors independently....
متن کاملSeeing the Meaning: Top–Down Effects on Letter Identification
Most models of reading agree that visual word recognition is underpinned by a highly interactive network in which both bottom-up and top-down processes contribute. What remains unknown is whether evidence of top-down effects upon letter processing are restricted to word-form level information, or whether meaning-level information also plays a role. Here we sought to investigate top-down semanti...
